Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS), also known as Directive 2011/65/EU, is an EU initiative that aims to impose limits on the use of hazardous materials, particularly those that are found in electrical and electronic components. The restricted materials include:
• Lead (Pb)
• Mercury (Hg)
• Hexavalent Chromium (Cr+6)
• Polybrominated Biphenyl (PBB)
• Polybrominated Diphenyl Ether (PBDE)
• Cadmium (Cd)
As circuit boards will most likely end up in a landfill or other trash reclamation process in the fullness of time, it is crucial that all of the hazardous chemicals that may pollute the landfill and harm the environment are removed from the circuit boards. Consequently, all electronics manufacturing service providers who sell applicable products, sub-assemblies or components directly to EU countries are directed by the RoHS to use lead-free soldering with RoHS-compliant components during the manufacturing and assembly processes.
How Do We Maintain Our ROHS-Compliance?
Advanced Technology & Manufacturing boasts of a state-of-the-art RoHS compliant manufacturing facility in Perth, Western Australia to ensure lead-free PCB assembly for both surface mount and through-hole boards. In addition, every member of our team has undergone comprehensive RoHS training to correctly handle and assemble RoHS compliant products. We use the latest equipment and RoHS compliant components. We also endeavour to use a unique system to identify RoHS compliant products and segregate them so that they can be properly tracked through our manufacturing facility.
